What our tv moms are wearing

Sure, they have wardrobe and makeup artists at their beck and call, and there’s no doubt they’re lovely women, but it’s fun to see what our favorite TV moms are wearing, even if we do know it’s all make believe.

Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, ‘Modern Family’

Actress Sofia Vergara would look beautiful in a burlap sack, but fortunately for fashion lovers, the character she plays, Gloria Pritchett, likes to flaunt her curves. As the younger wife of a man she obviously adores and mother of two, Gloria brings zany to the Pritchett household. The funny, outgoing, exotic Gloria is all about drawing attention to her assets. Gloria would never be seen wearing sweats or any style that hides her shape.

It’s all about confidence. Choose the parts of your body you like most, and highlight them. Slip on high heels and chandelier earrings, oh, and an animal-print handbag. Gloria isn’t shy when it comes to makeup. Although she’s a natural stunner, she does her eyes with well-defined lashes and accents her lips with bright lipstick

Vergara actually has a line of clothes that are carried by Kmart that reflect Gloria’s style. Select a couple of basics to get your Gloria-like wardrobe going.

Betty Draper, ‘Mad Me’

Played by January Jones, Betty has often been compared to Grace Kelly. Although she is cold, aloof and emotionally immature, Betty has a way of keeping every eye in the room locked on her. Divorcing her philandering husband Don and marrying an older man doesn’t seem to have softened her much, and the good news is, the change hasn’t hurt her sense of style, either.

There are many things you can do if you’d like to mimic Betty’s style. Try on a few of these ideas for size:

  • Discover patterns and colors. Betty leans toward floral and stripes in pastel arrangements.
  • Less is more. Never allow the hemline of your skirts to fall above the knees.
  • Concentrate on shape. She favors sheath and shift dresses, styles that are easily found in stores today. Create an hourglass figure by wearing flared-pleated skirts and dresses, and accentuate your waist with a belt.

Lisa Vanderpump, ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’

Copying her style is as simple as choosing a few basic colors, buying lots of classic separates, and dressing them up with dramatic punches of style through the use of handbags, shoes and jewelry. Her look is stylish but understated. Lisa has learned to wed herself to the colors that look best with her skin tone. While her typical color of pink may not be the perfect shade for you, the best colors make your skin look healthy and bright. Lisa wouldn’t be caught dead in a color that washes her out.

Dallas Royce, ‘Suburgatory’

Although it’s possible that her clothes are seen from the space shuttle, she is always coordinated from head to foot. Dallas dresses for everyday activities as though she is attending a cocktail party. Her perky personality and sense of self makes Dallas the perfect girl for self-indulgent style.

Dallas is loud, and her clothes are equally raucous. If that’s a look you’re going for, we recommend you save your “Dallas” clothes for nights out with friends. Look for a dress that’s short, and if you really want to look like her, go with a one-shouldered piece. Find bright, chunky heels, gold bangles and a pearl necklace.

Alicia Florrick, ‘The Good Wife’

No matter how much drama surrounds Alicia Florrick, played by Julianna Margulies, her wardrobe is flawless. Alicia isn’t afraid of a form-fitting dress. There’s something to be learned from a woman who is publicly humiliated, is vindicated, and falls out of love, yet always manages to look cool as a cucumber.
